India tour of England: Hosts win the third Test by an innings and 76 runs, comments on India's defeat on social media
The hosts have won the third Test of India's tour of England by an innings and a big margin of 76 runs, thus leveling the series.
On the fourth day of the match, England had a lead of 134 runs and needed eight wickets to win. But Cheteshwar Pujara and Indian captain Virat Kohli were on the crease.
When India's innings resumed at 215 for two, the Indian fans hoped that Pujara would be able to end England's lead after completing his century and Kohli his half-century. This was the only hope for India after being all out for 78 on the first day.
But Oli Robinson skillfully completed his five wickets in the morning session using the second new gand and thus the Indian team was all out for 278 15 minutes before the lunch break.
This was Captain Root's 27th victory for England and he won the award in front of his home crowd.
The fourth match of the five-match Test series starts at the Oval on Thursday. The series ends on September 10.
India's disappointing batting in the first innings
The match at Headingley started with Indian captain Virat Kohli's decision to bat after winning the toss, which could not be proved right when the entire team was bowled out for 78.
It will be a memorable turn for James Anderson, the highest wicket-taker for England in Test matches, as his three wickets put the Indian team under pressure.
Anderson took the wickets of openers KR Rahul, Pujara and Kohli for just 21 runs for India which proved to be very important. Craig Overton also took three wickets while Oli Robinson and Sam Curran took two wickets each.
Thus, the match became one-sided on the first day and England's good performance in batting also reduced the chances of India's return.
After half-centuries from openers Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed and then a century from England captain Joe Root, England scored 432 in the first innings. David Malan also scored 70 runs.
Mohammad Shami took four wickets but not all Indian bowlers, including him, were able to limit England's lead. Thus, England got a lead of 354 runs which was no less than a mountain for India in the second innings.
In the second innings, when the Indian batsmen got a second chance, Rohit Sharma first resisted with a half-century and then Cheteshwar Pujara came close to a century.
Captain Virat Kohli supported the team with 55 runs but all three were dismissed by young Oli Robinson, who was playing his fourth Test, and completed his five wickets.
Oli Robinson, who took a total of seven wickets in both innings, was declared the man of the match.
At the end of the match, Kohli was asked about his decision to bat first after winning the toss. He said that he did not regret it. "It looked like the pitch would be great for batting. But when England started batting, the situation had changed and we did not bowl so well.
Kohli praised the English bowlers who he said kept up the pressure on the Indian batsmen.
"The performance of the best teams is not so unexpected."
The Test series between England and India has also been the focus of attention on social media in which the first match was drawn, second India won and now England has made a strong comeback in the series with this victory.
In such a situation, consumers are talking about the performance of Captain Kohli, India's instability and the young England team without some senior cricketers.
